Installations Spore Lab, 2024

Spore Lab is an art project created for an immersive art event set in a primordial world on the cusp of human emergence. By exploring the consequences of change, from fear to adaptation to destruction, we unveil truths about how we interact with the natural world. The station featured three “microscopes” – handmade kaleidoscopes ranging from 10” to 24” long – and an assortment of resin-filled petri dishes embedded with miniature bats, jellyfish, dragonflies, and human figures, set at the same scale to discourage hierarchical thinking. Lab visitors used the ‘scopes to reveal globe-like scenes. They then took a picture and used it as the basis of a field report, where they named their new discovery and described its features, both physical and emotional. This project encouraged speculative thinking about how humans, flora, and fauna can integrate and flourish together.
